The Wardrobe

As part of our ongoing commitment to women, nonbinary, and genderqueer authors, Sundress Publications is accepting submissions for  The Wardrobe. Each week our editors will promote a single author, reprinting a selection of work from their published collection. Think of it as a kind of “Best Dressed” feature, without the tabloid snark.

Submission Guidelines

  1. The Wardrobe is for women, nonbinary, and genderqueer writers only.
  2. All work must be published or forthcoming in a book or chapbook. Individual publications from journals are not eligible.
  3. We accept submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, hybrid, and multi-genre books. Longer pieces may be excerpted in the weekly features.
  4. Work must have been published within two years of submission date.
  5. We request that one (1) print copy be mailed to Sundress Academy for the Arts, ATTN: The Wardrobe, 195 Tobby Hollow Lane, Knoxville, TN 37931. (Do let us know if you, for whatever reason, cannot send a print copy.)
  6. Submit via the submission form below.

Submissions to The Wardrobe will remain eligible for “Best Dressed” selection for up to two years from the submission date. Hard copies will become a permanent part of the Sundress Academy for the Arts library and be made available for residents. Please note that you will only be notified if your book is chosen for inclusion in Best Dressed.

  1. Wardrobe is a great idea, giving us a chance to read more of the work by women writers.
    Thanks so much!

  2. Are you still running the Wardrobe feature? The email address listed does not seem to be working.

  3. I love love love any effort to publish more women, always– but why does it have to be in a separate forum that pulls its title from a clothing reference? Can’t more women just be spotlighted regularly in your usual venues, without the separateness so highlighted?

    1. It was supposed to be a play on the name of our organization–Sundress Publications. And women are spotlighted heavily in our usual venues already. This is simply a way to further showcase women writers that aren’t a part of our journals, chapbook series, print series, or anthologies. 🙂

  4. The guidelines say “a selection of work from her published collection.” Does this mean novels are not eligible? Thanks! (Wonderful thing you are doing, in any event.)

  5. I looked at your home page but it appears The Wardrobe is focusing on poetry. Or is there another link I should be looking at to get a sense of the short stories you are spotlighting?

    1. We receive mostly poetry submissions, but we do also publish both fiction and nonfiction. You can see some selections from Sybil Baker’s essay collection which was published during the second week in December.
