The Wardrobe’s Best Dressed: Holms Troelstrup’s “i don’t miss”

Troelstrup bio pic

This selection is from Troelstrup’s book Within Mutiny.

i don’t miss

but
I saw lips on string’s skybound
pull toward the east
pull toward the west
facing north
a brief chorus of ivory bullets
competing for space

in the passing
I missed the light
refracted infinitely against
a setting refrain of grounded strings

I wanted wings
I wanted sky
to keep your song in bloom

span

it was bright out when you came
all the grays singing into brown and green
watching was full of ease
but knowing those first limbs pushed against brick and mortar to come to
first you were stencil
then heart shape
then bone
postcard
then letter
then map
and I may hold my questions
brimming over you
but you have your keep
your reach

The Wardrobe’s Best Dressed: Holms Troelstrup’s “moonlighting”

moonlighting

squinting out from my nest of your cellulite I tongued your skin
aglow with the swell of meaty taste you leave
maybe I’ll holiday in acne pockets
weekend in salty nostrils
could you catch me parasiting?
boosting your mites and cilia
could you scratch deep with grainy fingernails where skin
tufts over skin, find me licking you, swollen with charbroiled soy, off my lips
and love me too?

The Wardrobe’s Best Dressed: Holms Troelstrup’s “murder”

murder

wasn’t it rhythm that kept us from teetering off the limb
the push of skin and tendency to stretch and contract

and though her wings held tight to closure
her squaw a barking prism
the murder of crows lifts from the yard
in an orchestrated motion of levity
and leave

maybe we missed the edge
going straight for distance
a bullied sound between the walls

The Wardrobe’s Best Dressed: Holms Troelstrup’s “In the sunflower”

in the sunflower

took your green and raised you neon
aching
arching
panting for the break
new skinlike new bodies
blasting bright
ackward
bellydancing whiles
you babies blaring from your soil, on to mine
tho
I must keep short indulgence
mother of logic
and we
codependant orgs
play this pace of dusting plates
and turning
and looking
and reaching for another spot
