Writing Retreat for Survival and Healing

Sundress Academy for the Arts is excited to announce its second annual generative writing retreat celebrating survival and healing on July 21st and 22nd, 2018. This two-day retreat for sexual assault survivors will be held in Oak Ridge, TN and will be a safe space for creativity, generative writing exercises, discussions on ways to write trauma, advice on publishing, and more. Come join us in mutual support for a weekend of writing time for healing, safety, and comfort.

A weekend pass includes one-on-one and group instruction, writing supplies, food, drinks, and all on-site amenities for $75.

The event will be open to writers of all backgrounds and provide an opportunity to work with many talented, published fiction writers and poets from around the country, including Karen Craigo, Krista Cox, Jennie Frost, and Macy French.

Karen Craigo is the author of two Sundress titles, No More Milk (2016) and Passing Through Humansville (coming in 2018). She is also the author of Escaped Housewife Tries Hard to Blend In (forthcoming 2018), and three chapbooks. She is the editor of a weekly newspaper, The Marshfield (Missouri) Mail, and she maintains Better View of the Moon, a blog on writing and creativity. She lives in Springfield, Missouri.

For money, Krista Cox is a paralegal. For joy, she’s an associate poetry editor at Stirring: A Literary Collection and Executive Director of Lit Literary Collective, a nonprofit serving her local literary community. Her poetry has appeared in Columbia Journal, Rappahannock Review, The Humanist, and elsewhere.

Jennie Frost is a poet from Maryville, TN.  They are an MFA candidate at the University of Mississippi and former Literary Arts Director at Sundress Academy for the Arts where they ran the Sundress Reading Series. Their poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Border Crossing, The Fourth River, Rogue Agent, Stirring, and more. They are a dedicated member of the LGBTQ+ community and a human rights activist focusing on sexual assault prevention.

Macy French is a poet, advocate, and recent graduate of Tusculum College where she studied creative writing. Her work has been featured in Connotation PressLady Blue Literary Journal, GRAVEL Magazine, and others. She completed an honors thesis project where she studied attitudes about sexual assault on college campuses, analyzed data, and co-founded Students for the Prevention of Sexual Assault at Tusculum.
