I too tire of the blonde trance
parapets and horse-drawn paths
upon which our story’s cast
of flat characters flee to wedded ends

Imagination travels further: it must
devour cliché as a desert creature
perhaps a jackal-headed Beast
guards a blue lotus and not the rose

Sarah E. Colona lives and teaches in her home state of New Jersey. She is the author of three poetry collections: Hibernaculum (Gold Wake Press, 2013), Thimbles (dancing girl press, 2012) and That Sister, (dancing girl press, 2016). Jennie Frost is a Jewish, Appalachian poet from Maryville, TN.
