Sundress Academy for the Arts (SAFTA) is pleased to announce the winners of the VIDA fellowships for the fall residency period, Caitlin Scarano and Caitlin Neely. SAFTA paired with VIDA, a research-driven organization aiming to increase critical attention to contemporary women’s writing and further transparency around gender equality issues in contemporary literary culture, to offer these fellowships for two women writers in any genre. The full scholarship was awarded to Caitlin Scarano and the fifty percent scholarship was awarded to Caitlin Neely.
Caitlin Scarano is a poet in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee PhD creative writing program. She was the winner of the 2015 Indiana Review Poetry Prize, Conium Review’s 2015 Flash Fiction Contest, and second place winner of Ruminate Magazine’s 2016 Spiritual Nonfiction Prize. She has two poetry chapbooks: The White Dog Year (dancing girl press, 2015) and The Salt and Shadow Coiled (Zoo Cake Press, 2015). Her recent work can be found in Granta, Crazyhorse, and Ninth Letter.
Caitlin Neely received her MFA from the University of Virginia. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in Passages North, Connotation Press, DIAGRAM, Sixth Finch, Devil’s Lake and elsewhere. She is the founder of The MFA Years and the editor for Reservoir Journal.
